More than 120 children from the districts of Caminaca and Caracoto participated in the Vacation School, a Redinter initiative that reinforces healthy habits, first aid, nutritious eating, and recreational learning to prevent the loss of knowledge during the school break.

Following the success of the Kusi Warma project, which since 2022 has significantly reduced childhood anemia and strengthened education in Caminaca and Caracoto, Redinter is strengthening its commitment to children in Puno. To prevent reversals in the progress made during the school year, the "Summer School" initiative was implemented this summer, benefiting more than 120 children in these districts.

This program, developed in collaboration with ADRA Peru, reinforced acquired knowledge and developed healthy habits through recreational and educational activities. Experience has shown that during the school break, children experience a decrease in their hemoglobin levels due to changes in diet and the abandonment of healthy habits. Their academic skills, especially reading comprehension, are also affected.

To address these challenges, the Vacation School is structured into four key areas for its comprehensive development:

  • Health Protection: Promoting essential habits such as a balanced diet, adequate rest, physical exercise, and mental health.
  • First Aid for Children: Practical instruction on how to respond to emergencies such as cuts, burns, or choking, with simulations to apply what has been learned.
  • Cooking for Children: Preparing nutritious recipes with accessible, iron-rich ingredients, promoting healthy eating and preventing anemia.
  • Educational Games: Fun activities designed to strengthen psychomotor and cognitive skills while children learn through play.

With the Summer School, Redinter consolidates these advances, ensuring that children in Caminaca and Caracoto continue to develop healthily and enjoy improved educational opportunities.

This initiative reaffirms Redinter's commitment to child well-being and sustainable development in rural communities in Peru, promoting programs that generate a positive and lasting impact on the lives of children and their families.
