XI Expo Energía Perú

Redinter participated in the most relevant energy event of the year, Expo Energía Perú 2023, bringing together experts and professionals to share knowledge and deepen key issues related to sustainability and innovation to learn about the current situation of the electricity sector and new technologies applied in the market.

To address the current challenges of the electricity transmission sector in Peru, Mario Venero, Infrastructure Management Manager of the electricity transmission company, along with various specialists in the sector presented some solution alternatives during Expo Energía 2023 and agreed on the importance of the energy transition.

According to Venero, "optimal, affordable and non-polluting energy" is necessary. To achieve this, it is essential to improve energy efficiency throughout the transmission chain, from generation to distribution. In this way, these three keys can be taken as a starting point to overcome these challenges in the country:

Renewable Energy and Sustainability:

The first key challenge is to move towards electricity transmission based on renewable and sustainable energy. To meet the Sustainable Development Goals and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, it is essential to promote the transition towards clean energy sources.

Strategic planning and regulations:

Long-term strategic planning is essential to guarantee the growth and sustainable development of the electricity grid. This implies anticipating future demand needs, considering the increase in renewable energy generation, and ensuring adequate transmission infrastructure. Likewise, clear and updated regulations are required in coordination with the Economic Operation Committee of the National Interconnected System (COES) that promotes the integration of renewable energies and encourages energy efficiency.

Innovative Technologies:

Lastly, the use of advanced technologies, such as digitization and automation, can improve the operation and management of the electrical system, optimizing its efficiency and reliability. Digitization enables the collection and analysis of data in real time, giving greater visibility and control over the operation of the network. This facilitates early detection of potential failures, power quality monitoring, and load optimization.

By addressing these key aspects, the electricity transmission sector in Peru will be in a better position to face current and future challenges. Collaboration between relevant stakeholders, including governments, energy companies and civil society, will be essential to achieve efficient, sustainable and resilient electricity transmission for the benefit of all Peruvians.
